Jesus Can Handle the Smell
1. Settle for definitions that don't do justice to the biblical picture of God
2. Jesus was on the safe side of the Jordan
3. I am the resurrection and the life
4. 70% of ministry is just presence
5. A disciple is someone who sits at the feet of someone and stays there.
6. God responds to our grief even when he knows our future.
7. God is moved by our problems even when he knows that he is the answer.
8. Jesus reveals:
His identity to Martha
His heart to Mary
His glory to the crowd
9. Miracle becomes the final straw in the story.
10. Omnipotence means that God is the authority over every other power.
11. God works according to faith and need, not according to our timeline.
12. Believe that God is omnipotent (all powerful) but more focused on power than on him.
Three things:
First, don't live our life by our set of definitions of God
Second, God defines his attributes
Third, be willing to let God into our world
13. If you open up the tomb everyone's going to remember the smell and not the funeral.
14. When the smell of disappointment and doubt get together it can lead to the smell of disgust.
15. Smells have a way of escaping no matter how we think we've sealed the tomb.
16. Can we open our tombs to Jesus when God hasn't done what we thought he should have in our life?
